Our Heritage: Over 52 Years of Maritime Excellence
Haque & Sons Ltd. is woven into the fabric of Bangladesh’s maritime history. Since our inception in 1948, we have evolved from a regional enterprise into the nation’s preeminent crew management and shipping agency. Our journey is defined by generational stability, disciplined operational standards, and an unwavering commitment to the global maritime community.
Foundations of Leadership
(1948–1966)
The company was founded in Chittagong by the late Al-Haj Abdul Haque Chowdhury. Initially established as a multifaceted enterprise encompassing construction, oil milling, and international trade, the company played a pivotal role in the early commercial development of the region. Even in these formative years, our leadership identified the strategic importance of Chittagong’s port, setting the stage for our eventual transition into maritime services.
The Evolution into Shipping (1967–1990)
In 1967, Mr. Enamul Haque Chowdhury assumed leadership, ushering in a transformative era for the organization. Recognizing the burgeoning potential of the global shipping industry, the company underwent a strategic pivot:
Haque & Sons Ltd. formally launched its shipping agency division.
We secured our inaugural international crew manning contract with a Greek bulk carrier operator, marking our entry into global crew management.
With an expanding international client base, we established Representative office in Canada, our first physical footprint in the North American market.
Under the leadership of our current Managing Director, who joined the firm in 1991, we have professionalized our management structure, integrated cutting-edge technology, and diversified our service portfolio.
Strategic Infrastructure Development
To maintain our competitive edge, we invested in internal training and logistics capabilities to ensure end-to-end quality control:
Established the Bangladesh Maritime Training Institute (BMTI), providing specialized post-sea training to meet evolving STCW and international regulatory standards.
Launched Marine Travel Agency Limited, a dedicated logistics division ensuring seamless crew transit, global mobility, and comprehensive travel management.
Expanded our North American presence with representative offices in New York and Houston
Founded the International Maritime Academy (IMA) to cultivate the next generation of maritime professionals. Through value-added, vessel-specific training, our cadets are uniquely prepared for success. We are proud to note that many of our first-batch graduates now serve as senior officers for our long-standing principals.
A Global Presence
Today, Haque & Sons Ltd. bridges the gap between Bangladeshi expertise and the global shipping market. With a network of representative offices spanning Japan, Canada, and the United States, we provide our international principals with localized support, regional maritime intelligence, and a consistent, high-standard service experience—regardless of geography
